May 16, 2018 | St. Francis News

Sidewalk CPR

In support of National CPR Week June 1-7, St. Francis Medical Center and St. Vincent Medical Center are offering free Hands-Only CPR classes to the community in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency.

What:

Free Hands-Only CPR

When:

Tuesday, June 5, 2018

  • Session 1: 10:30 am – 11:00 am (English)
  • Session 2: 11:00 am – 11:30 am (Spanish)
  • Session 3: 11:30 am – 12:00 noon (Spanish)
  • Session 4: 12:00 noon – 12:30 pm (English)

Where:

St. Francis Medical Center
3630 E. Imperial Highway
Health Services Pavilion, Terrace Level Classroom
Lynwood, CA 90262

Why:

According to the American Heart Association, nearly 90 percent of victims suffering a cardiac arrest (heart suddenly stops) outside of a hospital setting die. Less than half of these victims get the immediate help they need before professional first responders arrive. Immediate CPR can more than double a victim’s chance of survival. With 70 percent of cardiac arrests occurring at home, administering CPR could save the life of a family member or other loved one.

How:

To register for a session, please call St. Francis Medical Center’s Education Department at (310) 900-8522.

CPR instructors will demonstrate the proper techniques of Hands-Only CPR, and participants will have the opportunity to practice on mannequins. The training will not result in CPR certification, but information on how to get certified will be available.
